Delicately prepared seafood in an indulgent fine dining atmosphere! When I heard that Anthony Bourdain was friends with the owner, I had to check it out. I ordered the escargot francaise with butter nut truffles and creamed risotto. My friend ordered the roast duck with sea scallops served in a savory but delicate broth. Parsons Restaurant can contend with marker 32 or Dwights Bistro. It's true that the maître de will insist that you wear a jacket or tie but if you don't want to dress for dinner, go to Outback Steakhouse and get yourself a bloomin' onion. I work hard and I eat hard. It's my life after all, right? Right???

This place is one of those cozy beach restaurants that is all about fresh seafood done right. It's an old house converted into a restaurant with a cozy decor; nothing fancy. But the food is delicious and affordable. Definitely a must if you're looking for a good seafood dinner near the beach!

This place is okay... Not the best seafood in town. Also, it was EXTREMELY empty. I'm not sure if there was a specific reason or not, but my boyfriend did get sick the next day. I hope there's no coincidence... We got the coconut shrimp for $12.99, and the fried flounder for $13.99, awesome prices, but not the best food. I don't think we'll be ordering cheap seafood again lol

Amazing Seafood +_Non-Pretentious Atmosphere + Reasonable Prices = What Else Could You Want!? Ok so my husband & I were on vacation (we live in MN where there is NO fresh seafood anywhere) and our mission was EAT SEAFOOD. This place was not a planned stop but as I was searching for a place nearby to eat on my smartphone, I stumbled across this place, read the menu and was quite amazed at how good everything sounded and how cheap the prices were. We got there and were surprised at what a divey place this looked like from the outside. But its cute in a divey way. It was relaxing and homey inside. No tap beer here which bummed me out but that was really the only bad thing. We ordered Buffalo Frog Legs & Crab Stew for appetizers. Really? $5 for a huge bowl of crab stew? YUM! Buffalo Frog Legs were very good, and unique which is what we like to see on a menu. I noticed everyone around us was eating fried stuff and I also noticed a lot of these reviews talk about fried food but seriously, there is TONS of other stuff on their menu that is NOT fried. I had a REALLY hard time deciding for an entree because everything under the specialty entrees column sounded AMAZING. My husband got the Fish Casino which was Fish with Shrimp, Onions, Mushrooms, Bacon & Cheese on top. Cheese on a Filet of Fish? BACON ON FISH!?! Who would have thought of something so amazing? It was awesome, husband loved it. I got the Seafood Delight which was Fish with a crab cake, shrimp and cajun alfredo sauce on top. WHATTTTTTT... I think I died and went to heaven!! Who puts crab cake on top of a piece of fish? Much less Alfredo sauce!!? Whoever came up with these entrees is some kind of TASTEBUD GOD. This is just stuff I wouldn't think to put on fish but it was AMAZING. OUTSTANDING. FRESH AND DELICIOUS. I would have gotten full on just that but it came with 2 sides too!! I got Okra & Loaded Baked Potato. YUM! Bill was less than $55 for 3 bottled beers, 2 apps & 2 entrees. A fancy, pretentious place in Minnesota with that kind of seafood would easily bring a bill of $100. I can't say enough about this place. And I can't believe it has bad reviews. Maybe people need to stop ordering the fried stuff and try all the other DELIGHTS on the menu.

We had to call because Yelp says that there closed on Mondays. THEY ARE OPEN Mondays. Based on the reviews we went here for my wife's birthday dinner. There were only a few cars in the parking lot and I was a little leary. We entered and we're greeted and sat at a large table for our party of 5. We started with the conch fritters and the corn nuggets. They were enjoyed by all even my 2 year old. The Coldslaw was also very good. Everyone ordered something different. My mother-in-law had the Coconut shrimp, my wife the Mahi, my father-in-law the deep fried shrimp and I had the blackened shrimp. All was very good and the portions were big enough to take back to the hotel for later. Might have to stop back if we are in the area again.

I was craving some lump crab meat and seafood in a casual setting-- and Parsons was perfect! The outside looks a little weathered, but the inside is clean and cozy. It's a great spot for families and couples looking for a good seafood dinner. We got crabmeat cocktail ($6.95) as an appetizer. It was generous and tasted fresh. It came with those cheap soup crackers in plastic wrappers.. I got a dreamboat ($12.95 for dinner), which is sauteed shrimps and mushrooms on top of crabmeat (yes, I was craving crabmeat!). I thought the mushrooms were a little too greasy, but otherwise, it was delicious! The side of onion rings and cole slaw also hit the spot. The portion was generous too. My boyfriend got salmon parmesean, also good though heavy. The service was efficient and quick. No complaints there. Overall, I thought it was a satisfying meal and would come back.

How many times have I driven by this divey seafood shack? No, it's not in the best neighborhood, and no, people are rarely singing it's praises, but it has been in business since 1966, and it does have pretty good Yelp reviews, so I decided to give it a whirl. I must confess, the original plan was to eat at TacoLu's new, bigger location in the former Homestead restaurant, but we just could NOT wait an hour and a half for food that I've have three thousand times. Since I'm moving away from the beach (to Riverside!) in a couple weeks, I decided I should make use of my time and try the last of the Jax Beach mystery restaurants. We pulled into Parson's and found two other cars in the parking lot. Not a good sign. The inside was similarly deserted, but I was determined to give it a go. We plopped down at a table and the only waitress on, Deborah, came over and delivered our menus and took our drink orders. After perusing our options, we decided that The Mariner's Platter for two was a no-brainer. Fish, oysters, shrimp, scallops, clam strips and deviled crab come broiled, fried, or blackened (we went broiled) with your choice of FOUR sides. That's crazy talk. When all four platters of food came out stacked, we realized two things: this seafood was legit and we had ordered WAY too much of it. The scallops and grouper were deliciously fresh and flaky, not fishy at all. The shrimp were flavorful and the oysters tasted freshly shucked. For our sides we did a baked potato, broccoli, rice, and fried okra - all good. I've always wanted to find a place like this in Jacksonville, and I've never been directed to the right place. Beachside Seafood and Sliders are both good, but I like the divey, boat-like feel of Parson's and the generous helping of well-priced fare. It reminds me of all the old-school seafood joints back home on the Gulf Coast. This meal was solid, not five stars, but I'd happily come back. Other than the restaurant itself being a ghost town, I think this a solid little spot in Jacksonville Beach. I'm not sure how they stay open, but I'm glad they do!

Parsons ain't pretty inside or out, even if it photographs well. It's also on a residential street, apparently, and it took a great effort from my GPS to find it. But, oh mama, once I got there and got some food on the table... Absolutely wonderful seafood at super-reasonable prices. Very nice staff, and certainly if you like to tuck into some quantity, they can accommodate you. But the food, ah the food... Yum.

This place is a total dive. Kinda like the Knob Hill of seafood restaurants. Building is a bit run down and has that old building smell. Not the cleanest place but that being said I was looking for some good fried seafood and this place delivered. Had shrimp, oysters and flounder all were fried and all tasted fresh and good, there was a ton of food. The shrimp were butterflied and cooked perfect the oysters were small but they were fresh and a huge pile of them. I wish I would have had the flounder broiled instead of fried but that was my call. I may have over done the fried but being from Denver I do not indulge in the fried seafood much so go big or go home. The sides were just ok.. If you are looking to impress a date probably not where you want to go. But after being at the beach hungry and want to suck down some cold ones and eat some fresh seafood this is a good choice. Was glad I came here. Laid back, casual, fresh and cheap for what you get.

Read several good reviews and decided to give them a try, first mistake! this was a special occasion and I was entertaining family from out of town and was looking for a local southern seafood place, to show off the great local seafood. Walking in I noticed the exterior was very run down benches out side were rotten and looked like it could possible be a liability. We we seated fast, we had reservations, and drinks came out within 10 min or so. They were only about 1/3 to capacity and should have had no trouble giving great service. I went to use the restroom to wash my hands before eating . WOW! this place is old and I understand that; however there is no excuse for the condition it was in. Dirty Linoleum floors floating on about a 1/4 inch of water, like walking on a water bed. the smell of raw sewage was very bad. Ordered dinner about 30 min. after arriving apx 6:30pm, half way thru ordering the waitress left to answer her phone and deliver food to another table. she came back about 10 min. later to continue taking our order, again she leaves to go into the kitchen. by 7:00 all orders are in and another round of drinks are delivered. at 7:50 the first plates came out mine happened to be first, being polite I did not start eating till everyone had theirs, at 8:35 the last plate was delivered to our table my food was stone cold. This was amazing to me I could have cooked the food faster in my kitchen, The seafood was all frozen in like a panko type crust. not a fresh lite souther style batter. several people got screwed up orders sides were given to the wrong people by this time we are only one of 3 tables in the place. Needless to say I was embarrassed and spent the next day apologizing. Few people will probably read this but I took the time to write this to try and warn people.

Okay, my mother swears by the fried oysters at this less than hole in the wall location. Well first, I am not a fan of the fried oyster (although I am a fan of them raw) and secondly, I will only go there after I have had a tetnus shot and have a serious amount of hand sterilizer on hand. It is a typical fried seafood location, like thousands in Florida. If you like fried oysters, you may love this spot. If not, you might try so revere else.

Awful! We took my elderly mother here looking for good fried shrimp. While the shrimp were from Mayport (a must for us) they were bland and seemed pre-battered. I had grilled Mahi which had simply no taste. My husband did enjoy the loaded potato but the fried okra was from a package and the spinach was from a can. The only thing we all agreed on was the cole slaw, which was OK. The Bathrooms should have clued us in. There was no soap and the sink looked like is would fall off the wall. The waitress was however nice.

This is one of those places that I seek out in other towns because it reminds me of home. It seemed like the kind ofplace that could be a neighborhood seafood joint, in say, bucktown. I was pleased with everything until I made one fatal mistake: I ordered seafood that wasn't locally caught. since then, my rule has been to only eat seafood caught nearby. That evening, I ordered Tuna. I asked for it to still be cold in the centerl. When I recieved it, it was cooked completely all the way through. It tasted like tuna from the MRE style pouch. Nevertheless, my fiance's meal was good I seem to recall (it was over a year ago), and everything else was fine, so if you are in the jacksonville area looking for a place to eat that isn't joe's crab crack, I suggest this place. Just order something local.

This place looks like a little hole in the wall restaurant but the food made up for the lack of atmosphere. So far this is the best seafood we have eaten in Jacksonville Beach. The portions are huge and the prices are very affordable. We are actually going to eat there again before we leave. The only downside is no alcohol but the good excellent food makes up for it.

It was 43 minutes later that I got my food. Each time the waitress was queried, "Its on the way". "It shouldn't be but another minute", "We had a lot of take out orders." Not my problem, that's your problem. "What, you want me to cancel the order?" NO, I am just saying that seated customers should take precedence... deaf ears. Seated near the young cashier, I told her that in 5 minutes I was walking out. Another waitress snapped at me, "You don't need to tell her!" I explained that I was just letting her know that I wasn't walking a check but was going to leave the place...PERIOD. The food was good, hot and fresh. The onion rings had the potential to be good but were soggy from sitting too long. The lousy service costs the waitress a tip (to insure promptness), a bad review and never going there again.

My wife and I went to eat at Taco Lu's but there are no tacos on earth worth waiting one hour to be seated so we went to Parson's. I have been here once before and even though 12 years have passed since my last visit, this restaurant continues to put out average food not worth making a special trip for. We arrived a little before 7pm on a Friday night and there was one or two parties waiting to be seated.. The front desk was not manned and we waited. Someone finally came and took the names of all who were waiting and then disappeared. It took them over 10 minutes to return and seat everyone. Five minutes after we were seated, a hostess called our names from the hostess stand. Not a good start. My wife and I ordered an appetizer and a drink. My wife requested a glass of milk and was asked if she wanted it over ice. She politely said no and was then presented with a glass of milk served over ice. The wait staff is harried, they wear dirty t-shirts and did not show a lot of friendliness. I felt bad for our waitress who looked as though she had way too many tables to handle at one time. They brought our stuffed mushroom appetizer which, I must say, was excellent. I got excited for the meal. While eating our appetizer, the waitress came by and asked if we would mind waiting for dinner because they were out of clean dishes. That was a first for me. Finally the food came. My wife ordered the clam chowder which was not very thick (the way I like it) but she said it was quite good. She also took my sides (applesauce and onion rings). The applesauce was much better according to my wife. I, on the other hand, ordered the seafood scampi over rice. It was pretty tasteless. They must have forgotten to add both butter and garlic. It was as if I were eating plain rice. The shrimp was overcooked and dry. When dinner was done, the waitress asked if we enjoyed dinner and I told her that my wife's was fine but mine was not. She asked if I wanted a replacement dinner but since I ate most of it, I declined. Kudos to the waitress who came back at took my scampi off the bill. She said that she appreciated the fact that neither my wife nor I complained about the wait and were extremely understanding about their short-staffing. I may go back for that reason but is that really a good reason to travel to eat mediocre food? I could not recommend Parson's as a good alternative if you have other options.

My husband ordered the shrimp floretine with coleslaw and onion rings - delicious. He had been here before and loves trying new things on menus, but he can't talk himself into not ordering it every time. He offered to share it with me, but we both knew that he didn't mean it so I stole just a few bites and ordered the dreamboat with the coleslaw and okra. It was crab meat topped with mushrooms and shrimp. Very tasty, but there is lots of butter in it, so consider your waistline warned. The okra were scrumptious - lightly fried with a hint of cajun seasoning. The other people at our table ordered the stuffed mushrooms, the seafood gumbo, the shrimp cocktail, and the gator tail (We snagged one of these. It was surprisingly tender.) and frog leg combo. They remarked for the rest of the day how good everything was. We were all too full to eat dinner that night.

It was as if I were eating plain rice. The shrimp was overcooked and dry. When dinner was done, the waitress asked if we enjoyed dinner and I told her that my wife's was fine but mine was not. She asked if I wanted a replacement dinner but since I ate most of it, I declined. Kudos to the waitress who came back at took my scampi off the bill. She said that she appreciated the fact that neither my wife nor I complained about the wait and were extremely understanding about their short-staffing. I may go back for that reason but is that really a good reason to travel to eat mediocre food? I could not recommend Parson's as a good alternative if you have other options.

Awful! We took my elderly mother here looking for good fried shrimp. While the shrimp were from Mayport (a must for us) they were bland and seemed pre-battered. I had grilled Mahi which had simply no taste. My husband did enjoy the loaded potato but the fried okra was from a package and the spinach was from a can. The only thing we all agreed on was the cole slaw, which was OK. The Bathrooms should have clued us in. There was no soap and the sink looked like is would fall off the wall. The waitress was however nice.

Great butterfly shrimp, huge and fresh. 40 of them with 4 Sides for 19 bucks!!!! Tasted great with good service. So glad my wife and I took the time and effort to find the place the locals go for a great meal.

Read several good reviews and decided to give them a try, first mistake! this was a special occasion and I was entertaining family from out of town and was looking for a local southern seafood place, to show off the great local seafood. Walking in I noticed the exterior was very run down benches out side were rotten and looked like it could possible be a liability. We we seated fast, we had reservations, and drinks came out within 10 min or so. They were only about 1/3 to capacity and should have had no trouble giving great service. I went to use the restroom to wash my hands before eating . WOW! this place is old and I understand that; however there is no excuse for the condition it was in. Dirty Linoleum floors floating on about a 1/4 inch of water, like walking on a water bed. the smell of raw sewage was very bad. Ordered dinner about 30 min. after arriving apx 6:30pm, half way thru ordering the waitress left to answer her phone and deliver food to another table. she came back about 10 min. later to continue taking our order, again she leaves to go into the kitchen. by 7:00 all orders are in and another round of drinks are delivered. at 7:50 the first plates came out mine happened to be first, being polite I did not start eating till everyone had theirs, at 8:35 the last plate was delivered to our table my food was stone cold. This was amazing to me I could have cooked the food faster in my kitchen, The seafood was all frozen in like a panko type crust. not a fresh lite souther style batter. several people got screwed up orders sides were given to the wrong people by this time we are only one of 3 tables in the place. Needless to say I was embarrassed and spent the next day apologizing. Few people will probably read this but I took the time to write this to try and warn people.

Amazing Seafood +_Non-Pretentious Atmosphere + Reasonable Prices = What Else Could You Want!? Ok so my husband & I were on vacation (we live in MN where there is NO fresh seafood anywhere) and our mission was EAT SEAFOOD. This place was not a planned stop but as I was searching for a place nearby to eat on my smartphone, I stumbled across this place, read the menu and was quite amazed at how good everything sounded and how cheap the prices were. We got there and were surprised at what a divey place this looked like from the outside. But its cute in a divey way. It was relaxing and homey inside. No tap beer here which bummed me out but that was really the only bad thing. We ordered Buffalo Frog Legs & Crab Stew for appetizers. Really? $5 for a huge bowl of crab stew? YUM! Buffalo Frog Legs were very good, and unique which is what we like to see on a menu. I noticed everyone around us was eating fried stuff and I also noticed a lot of these reviews talk about fried food but seriously, there is TONS of other stuff on their menu that is NOT fried. I had a REALLY hard time deciding for an entree because everything under the specialty entrees column sounded AMAZING. My husband got the Fish Casino which was Fish with Shrimp, Onions, Mushrooms, Bacon & Cheese on top. Cheese on a Filet of Fish? BACON ON FISH!?! Who would have thought of something so amazing? It was awesome, husband loved it. I got the Seafood Delight which was Fish with a crab cake, shrimp and cajun alfredo sauce on top. WHATTTTTTT... I think I died and went to heaven!! Who puts crab cake on top of a piece of fish? Much less Alfredo sauce!!? Whoever came up with these entrees is some kind of TASTEBUD GOD. This is just stuff I wouldn't think to put on fish but it was AMAZING. OUTSTANDING. FRESH AND DELICIOUS. I would have gotten full on just that but it came with 2 sides too!! I got Okra & Loaded Baked Potato. YUM! Bill was less than $55 for 3 bottled beers, 2 apps & 2 entrees. A fancy, pretentious place in Minnesota with that kind of seafood would easily bring a bill of $100. I can't say enough about this place. And I can't believe it has bad reviews. Maybe people need to stop ordering the fried stuff and try all the other DELIGHTS on the menu.

Good fried seafood if you are looking for that. Portions are huge. Price is very reasonable. Good service. The place is not an atmosphere driven establishment so keep that in mind.

We had to call because Yelp says that there closed on Mondays. THEY ARE OPEN Mondays. Based on the reviews we went here for my wife's birthday dinner. There were only a few cars in the parking lot and I was a little leary. We entered and we're greeted and sat at a large table for our party of 5. We started with the conch fritters and the corn nuggets. They were enjoyed by all even my 2 year old. The Coldslaw was also very good. Everyone ordered something different. My mother-in-law had the Coconut shrimp, my wife the Mahi, my father-in-law the deep fried shrimp and I had the blackened shrimp. All was very good and the portions were big enough to take back to the hotel for later. Might have to stop back if we are in the area again.

How many times have I driven by this divey seafood shack? No, it's not in the best neighborhood, and no, people are rarely singing it's praises, but it has been in business since 1966, and it does have pretty good Yelp reviews, so I decided to give it a whirl. I must confess, the original plan was to eat at TacoLu's new, bigger location in the former Homestead restaurant, but we just could NOT wait an hour and a half for food that I've have three thousand times. Since I'm moving away from the beach (to Riverside!) in a couple weeks, I decided I should make use of my time and try the last of the Jax Beach mystery restaurants. We pulled into Parson's and found two other cars in the parking lot. Not a good sign. The inside was similarly deserted, but I was determined to give it a go. We plopped down at a table and the only waitress on, Deborah, came over and delivered our menus and took our drink orders. After perusing our options, we decided that The Mariner's Platter for two was a no-brainer. Fish, oysters, shrimp, scallops, clam strips and deviled crab come broiled, fried, or blackened (we went broiled) with your choice of FOUR sides. That's crazy talk. When all four platters of food came out stacked, we realized two things: this seafood was legit and we had ordered WAY too much of it. The scallops and grouper were deliciously fresh and flaky, not fishy at all. The shrimp were flavorful and the oysters tasted freshly shucked. For our sides we did a baked potato, broccoli, rice, and fried okra - all good. I've always wanted to find a place like this in Jacksonville, and I've never been directed to the right place. Beachside Seafood and Sliders are both good, but I like the divey, boat-like feel of Parson's and the generous helping of well-priced fare. It reminds me of all the old-school seafood joints back home on the Gulf Coast. This meal was solid, not five stars, but I'd happily come back. Other than the restaurant itself being a ghost town, I think this a solid little spot in Jacksonville Beach. I'm not sure how they stay open, but I'm glad they do!

Parsons ain't pretty inside or out, even if it photographs well. It's also on a residential street, apparently, and it took a great effort from my GPS to find it. But, oh mama, once I got there and got some food on the table... Absolutely wonderful seafood at super-reasonable prices. Very nice staff, and certainly if you like to tuck into some quantity, they can accommodate you. But the food, ah the food... Yum.

This place is a total dive. Kinda like the Knob Hill of seafood restaurants. Building is a bit run down and has that old building smell. Not the cleanest place but that being said I was looking for some good fried seafood and this place delivered. Had shrimp, oysters and flounder all were fried and all tasted fresh and good, there was a ton of food. The shrimp were butterflied and cooked perfect the oysters were small but they were fresh and a huge pile of them. I wish I would have had the flounder broiled instead of fried but that was my call. I may have over done the fried but being from Denver I do not indulge in the fried seafood much so go big or go home. The sides were just ok.. If you are looking to impress a date probably not where you want to go. But after being at the beach hungry and want to suck down some cold ones and eat some fresh seafood this is a good choice. Was glad I came here. Laid back, casual, fresh and cheap for what you get.
